Summer Camp 2010 at Saint Nicholas Ranch and Retreat Center in Dunlap, CA attracted over 300 youth from the Metropolis of San Francisco. This year’s theme, “Claim Your Faith”, encouraged campers to actively live their faith in all aspects of their lives. Youth from Arizona, California, Hawaii, and Nevada attended camp and formed lasting friendships during their time together at Saint Nicholas Ranch. Join His Eminence Metropolitan Gerasimos and the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of San Francisco in the First Annual Celebration of the Family Golf Tournament in northern California. This tournament will be held on Monday, October 18, 2010 at the Harding Park Golf Course in San Francisco and will feature LPGA tour professional and winner Nicole Dalkas Castrale. Proceeds from this event will benefit the Metropolis Family Wellness Ministry which is providing programs and services for the spiritual, emotional and psychological wellness of the faithful and the priests in the Metropolis of San Francisco. The next two weeks, all Orthodox Christians prepare to commemorate the feast of the Falling Asleep – Koimisis or Dormition – of the Virgin Mary. It is a time to recall the sacred role that the Mother of God expressed for our salvation. With a period of fasting and Supplication Services – Paraklesis – our attention will center on the final days of the All-Holy Mother of Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. The new board of the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of San Francisco convened on July 15, 2010 at the Metropolis Offices for their first meeting. Under the leadership of His Eminence Metropolitan Gerasimos, Mrs. Jeannie Ranglas was appointed as President of the Metropolis Philoptochos for the next two years. The board also elected the following officers: Agatha Felactu – 1st Vice President, Michele Genetos – 2nd Vice President, Lisa Xanthos – Recording Secretary.
