San Francisco, California-The Greek Orthodox Folk Dance and Choral Festival, a
ministry of the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of San Francisco, is proud to
announce that the 34th annual FDF 2010 weekend will be held in San
Jose, CA on the Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday Weekend - January 14-18, 2010.
What's new for 2010?
Most
importantly, the FDF weekend is being held on a new date this year compared to
past years. But if you're an FDF veteran, not to worry, as this happens to be
one of the only years it will fall on this date. For 2011, FDF will be back on
the normal schedule in February during President's Day Weekend. Because the
2010 calendar in February happens to fall during a strict Lenten period, the
date was moved to January 14-18 in 2010 to accommodate our Orthodox calendar.
Although FDF is a magnificent weekend of faith, dance and fellowship, the
Lenten period is an extremely important part of the Greek Orthodox faith and
takes precedence over weekend events if they fall within a strict religious observance
such as Great and Holy Lent. The FDF
Board of Trustees is also working diligently to secure venues for 2011 and
beyond which we will look forward to sharing with you when those details are
finalized.
Where in San Jose?
The FDF 2010 weekend will be centered in the downtown San Jose area within one main hotel (that will be officially announced and available for booking in the coming months) and within a group of three facilities directly across from the hotel where competition and Sunday banquet will take place. These theatres or auditoriums make 2010 incredible because rather than a large convention center set up, these facilities allow the perfect way for our young dancers to showcase their culture and talent in a traditional stage and theatre venue. The acoustics and stages are designed specifically for performances and will make the event much more intimate as well as enjoyable for our parents and attendees to watch.
Dancers, directors and parents should start making their plans early for FDF 2010 and look out for more information about the location, on line registration and additional program details in the coming months.
