Dr. Peter Nanopoulos
SAN FRANCISCO, CA - His Eminence Metropolitan Gerasimos has announced the appointment of Dr. Peter Nanopoulos to serve as the Director for the Office of Greek Education and Culture for the Greek Orthodox Metropolis of San Francisco. This volunteer position is responsible for coordinating the Greek language schools within the Metropolis, as well as providing resources for teachers and students. Another major role of this Office will be to coordinate and develop programs to provide instruction on Greek history, civilization and culture.
"Dr. Nanopoulos brings to the Metropolis a wealth of knowledge and experience which he is unselfishly offering for the Church," said Metropolitan Gerasimos. "Programs to preserve and promote quality language instruction, Hellenic values and history must be provided so that people can remain connected to our ancestral roots. Dr. Nanopoulos accepted this responsibility with enthusiasm and professionalism, and his preliminary work is an excellent example of the tremendous organizational skills he brings to this ministry."
Dr. Nanopoulos is a university professor and credentialed college teacher with extensive teaching, administrative and consulting experience. At the University of San Francisco he teaches organization analysis, management and leadership, information technology, and economics curricula. At the University of California-Santa Cruz he teaches English, Business Communication, and teacher education courses. His management consulting engagements include technology firms, governmental entities, health care providers, and education institutions.
His work in Greece includes teaching management and economics at the University of Indianapolis-Athens; tenure as higher education policy analyst at the Ministry of Education-Athens; service as Instructional Technologies Advisor at the Pedagogical Institute-Athens; and visiting professor at the Ionian University-Corfu where he taught Greek as a Foreign Language and Greek-English Translation Methodologies.

In further explaining these areas, Dr. Nanopoulos offers the following, "Orama: A methodical process of envisioning and planning programs, projects, initiatives, and events. Praxis: A collaborative approach for transforming plans into creative actions and tangible outcomes for all learners. Ethos: A diligent effort in promoting the art of teaching and the discipline of learning through integrity, scholarship, mutual trust, respect and support. Noisi: A renewed commitment to planning and implementing the mission through sound understanding, expert knowledge and professional competence."
Dr. Nanopoulos' credentials include a Master of Public Administration degree with emphasis in Public Finance and Health Care Administration, a Doctorate in Higher Education Administration with specialization in Organization and Leadership, and certificates in Teaching English as a Second Language, Teacher Evaluation, and Teacher Education. His dissertation was entitled "The Ionian University, Greek Higher Education, and the European Union: A Case Study".
An active participant in community development in Silicon Valley, he has taken part in health care reform projects, served in economic development commissions, and contributed to charter school initiatives. At Saint Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in San Jose, California, Dr. Nanopoulos has served as the Greek School Superintendent. He is currently teaching Level 6 and he is also responsible for the development of the Greek Language Total Immersion Program.
