Labor Day/Feast of Indiction 2007

Wednesday, July 25, 2007

The annual Labor Day holiday honoring the hard-working men and women of our country will be observed this year on Monday September 3, while our new Ecclesiastical year will begin on September 1. Through these two observances we offer our prayerful thanks and supplications to God for all these hard-working citizens and their families, as we are reminded of our Savior's saying in the Gospel of John: "My Father is working still and I am working" (John 5:17). Dormition 2007

Thursday, July 19, 2007

The month of August is recognized by our Church as a time when we commemorate the Holy Mother of God and Ever-Virgin Mary. From August 1 - 14 we fast and pray beseeching her to intercede with her Son and our Savior for the health and well-being of mankind. Her obedience to God and her distinction as the handmaid of the Lord has endeared her to our Church from the beginning. We remember the importance of her life in God's divine plan to bring salvation to all people and therefore, celebrate the Dormition of the Theotokos on August 15. Read more...

Paschal Encyclical 2006

Friday, February 10, 2006

It is a day of Resurrection! Believe it, my dear brothers and sisters and beloved children in the Lord. You are all here with lit candles in hand, their radiant glow reflecting on your faces, and with your hearts filled with joyful expectation. Believe it! It is a day of Resurrection for all Orthodox Christians no matter where they live. Everything is filled with light, even the hollow and expressionless eyes of those disheartened people who have waited for years for a sign of hope.
