LOS ANGELES - During a recent trip to Los Angeles, Metropolitan Gerasimos of San Francisco met with His Eminence Archbishop Hovnan Derderian of the Western Diocese of the Armenian Orthodox Church of North America.  This was the first meeting of the Hierarchs which provided an opportunity to share information on their ministries, including the encouraging number of young men studying for the priesthood at their respective Theological institutions. Archbishop Derderian offered Metropolitan Gerasimos a tour of their Diocese offices, and informed him of their plans for construction of a Cathedral.  The Armenian Diocese is currently celebrating its 80th Anniversary. The two Hierarchs agreed to meet again in the near future to discuss other substantive issues of their respective churches.

Joining the Bishops were clergy from the Armenian Diocese: Very Rev. Fr. Dajad Dz. V. Yardemian, Fr. Zaven Arzoumanian, and Fr. Sipan Mekhsian.  In attendance from the Greek Orthodox Church were: Fr. John Bakas, Dean of the St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Los Angeles, and Fr. Gary Kyriacou from St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church in Camarillo, CA.
